Orange and Chatham County Incumbents swept the election, the Chapel Hill Affordable Housing Bond was approved, and four of the six constitutional amendments passed.

ISSUES ON THE BALLOT

STATE ISSUES 
Four of the six state constitutional amendments passed. For the official summary of each amendment, review Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall's letter to County Election Officials. 

1) Protect Right to Hunt and Fish passed with 2,048,235 votes (57% for and 43% against) (aka Right to Hunt and Fish Amendment, which creates a constitutional right to hunt and fish)

2) Strengthening Victims Rights passed with 2,228,296 votes (62% for and 38% against) (aka Marsy's Law Amendment,which expands the constitutional rights of crime victims)

3) Maximum Income Tax Rate of 7.0% passed with 2,060,373 votes (57% for and 43% against) (aka Income Tax Cap Amendment, which changes cap on income tax from 10 percent to 7 percent)

4) Require Photo ID to Vote passed with 2,015,849 votes (56% for and 44% against) (aka Voter ID Amendment, which requires a photo ID to vote in person) 

5) Nonpartisan Judicial Merit Commission was rejected with 2,347,700 votes against (67% against and 33% for) (aka Legislative Appointments to Elections Board and Commissions Amendment, which would have made the legislature responsible for appointments to election board)

6) Bipartisan Board of Ethics and Elections was rejected with 2,164,886 votes against (62% against and 38% for) (aka Judicial Selection for Midterm Vacancies Amendment, which would have created a process, involving a commission, legislature, and governor to appoint to vacant state judicial seats) 

LOCAL ISSUE

• The Chapel Hill Affordable Housing Bond Referendum passed with 18,223 votes (72% for and 28% against). Through this referendum, voters authorized the Town of Chapel Hill to raise $10 million in general obligation bonds for affordable housing.

  • Congratulations to Incumbent US Rep David Price (Dem), who won the election with 242,002 votes (72%) and bested Steve A. (Von) Loor (Rep) (24%) and Barbara Howe (Lib) (4%)

  • Congratulations to Incumbent US Rep Mark Walker (Rep), who won the election with with 159,651 votes (57%) and bested Ryan Watts (Dem) (43%)

• NC STATE SENATE DISTRICT 23
  • Congratulations to Incumbent NC Senator Valerie P. Foushee (Dem), who won the election with 72,529 votes (71%) and bested Tom Glendinning (Rep) (29%)
• NC HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 050
  • Congratulations to Incumbent NC Rep Graig R. Meyer (Dem), who won the election with 22,935 votes (62%) and bested Kenneth Price Rothrock (Rep) (38%)
• NC HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES DISTRICT 056
  • Congratulations to Incumbent NC Rep Verla C. Insko (Dem), who won the election with 31,788 votes (86%) and bested Matthew P. Clements (Lib) (3%) and Marcus Cooke (Rep) (11%)

• ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS AT-LARGE
  • Congratulations to Sally Greene (Dem), won the election with 53,693 votes and ran unopposed (she won the primary with 11,168 votes/61% and bested Brian Crawford and Noah Oswald)
